Meet our staff!

Rick Deer, Executive Director

Rick is the Executive Director of Camp Kon-O-Kwee Spencer. He joined the camp in February of 2007 after spending 15 as Executive Director at KOK/Spencer’s sister camp, Deer Valley. Rick’s major responsibilities at camp are strategic planning, operational direction, purposeful programs and developing an inviting camp community for all ages. Rick has a BA in Political Science from Duquense University. He did Grad work at Slippery Rock University in Recreation Administration and completed the MBA program at Frostburg State University in Maryland.

Rick has a beautiful wife named Charlie, who is a teacher, an EMT and a volleyball referee and coach. He has three wonderful children. RC is a teacher and a coach and lives in South Carolina. Rachel is an elementary assistant principal in North Carolina. And Mary, who is a life coach and lives in Iowa. When he isn’t traveling to visit with his family, Rick enjoys watching all of the Pittsburgh sports teams, history, the beach and comedy.

 

Zach Hoffman, Resident Camp Director

Zach joined Camp Kon-O-Kwee Spencer in January of 2008. As Resident Camp Director, he develops, plans, and facilitates year-round camp activities and programs, including the Summer Resident Camp program. The relationships and connections that are made at camp, between both campers and staff role models, are what Zach finds most special about a summer camp experience - “The atmosphere at YMCA Camp Kon-O-Kwee Spencer is one that encourages campers to truly be themselves. All campers and staff have something to add to our camp community and to their communities back home – We take care of each other.” Zach has eight years experience as a professional camp administrator/programmer having spent time at Camp Mount Luther in Mifflinburg, PA and YMCA Triangle Y Ranch in Oracle, AZ. He has a BA in English Literature/Professional Writing from Kutztown University of PA.

In his spare time, Zach likes spending time with his wife, Alesia, and their dog, Bisbee. He also enjoys hiking, climbing, whitewater paddling, reading and cooking

 


Tim Murphy, Outdoor Environmental Education Director (OEED)

In May of 2008, Tim started working at Camp Kon-O-Kwee Spencer. He is currently the Outdoor Environmental Education Director (or OEED for short). His responsibilities at camp are Environmental Education, Challenge Courses and Teambuilding. He is a graduate of Slipper Rock University with a degree in Environmental Education. In Tim’s free time he enjoys climbing, hiking, biking and kayaking. He sums it all up with, “I need to be outside everyday!”

 

 

 

Linda Flora, Administrative Assistant

Linda A. Flora started working for Kon-O-Kwee/Spencer in April of 2008. She is the camp’s Administrative Assistant. She assists the Executive Director and the camp staff in management of the camp office. She performs all clerical duties involved in the everyday running of the office as well as coordinates all personnel records and employment records. Linda maintains accurate records of all revenue accepted as well as all accounts payable and report all financial information to the Metro office.

Linda is a graduate of Avalon High School and has worked in the Administrative and Office Management field for 25+ years. In her spare time, Linda enjoys sewing, crocheting, reading and spending time with her family. She is also an active member of the Zelienople Lions Club as well as a member of her church council.
