The YMCA Camp Kon-O-Kwee Spencer CIT Program is designed specifically for 16 & 17 year olds who feel they are ready to take steps toward becoming a top-notch Kon-O-Kwee Counselor and Professional Role Model.
Selected CIT applicants are placed as Village CITs or Program CITs, assisting in the leadership and direction of a cabin group or leading or assisting in the facilitation of program instruction, respectively.
While CITs function as volunteers, all meals and lodging are provided for the duration of their time at camp along with professional training, leadership experience, friendships and memories that will last a lifetime.
Our CITs have a tremendous impact on the overall experience of our campers. With this in mind, the selection process can be rigorous as we seek to serve all campers with the best experience available.
Here are a few points to keep in mind as you decide whether the CIT Program is right for you:
CIT Applications should be filled out in full and sent to the camp office, attention of Zach Hoffman, after January 4th and prior to March 23rd, 2012.
All CIT applicants must attend CIT Weekend, March 30 – April 1, 2012. Over CIT Weekend, applicants will interview with a fulltime staff member, work on a service project, engage youth and families at our Breakfast with the Easter Bunny event, and interact with the other applicants. Applicants unable to attend CIT Weekend due to scheduling conflicts can choose to volunteer over select Spring Weekends at Kon-O-Kwee: contact Zach at zhoffman@ymcapgh.org for details.
Selected CITs will be available for a minimum of two sessions (four weeks) of the summer program –
the sessions do not need to be consecutive – in addition to Staff Training.
Selected CITs must be prepared to attend mandatory Staff Training the week of June 18 – 22, 2012. During this week they will participate in our LEAP (Lead, Engage, Apply, Perform) training to prepare
them for their role as a CIT.
