Fawna
is a progressive program which enhances the Gena experience.
In addition to the program areas here at Kon-O-Kwee, Fawna campers
participate on hikes to local sights such as Eagle's Nest, the
"Big Tree", and Brush Creek Park, as well as overnight
campouts. There are approximately 6-8 campers in a cabin, with
a counselor in each cabin. There may also be a C.I.T. (counselor-in-training)
in the cabin as well.
-
- The cornerstone of Fawna
is a set of beads that each girl will receive at the end of their
stay at Camp. These beads are called Fawna Beads. Each bead has
its own meaning and represents a hike or activity the child had
participated in. The beads are very special, and like the many
different activities and awards, will be constant reminders of
the fun times your child had, and will have, at Camp Kon-O-Kwee.
-
- Our goal is to prepare the
campers to "graduate" to the Explorer Program. By the
time a Fawna camper reaches her last year of eligibility (age
11) she has been taught basic orienteering skills, such as fire
building, how to use a compass, how to build a lean-to, knot
tying, and pack tying. They participate in group initiative activities,
like the high and low ropes courses, which encourage team work
and an overall sense of trust among the group of campers.
Fawna provides young ladies with
an opportunity to take on leadership roles, which helps to prepare
them for the Explorer Program, the Teen Adventure Program....and
life.
