Summer Staff Opportunities

Counselors & Program Staff

Counselors are carefully selected and trained to enable youngsters to learn new skills and improve their old ones...safely. Most of our counselors are pursuing a teaching or other child-related career. In accordance with ACA guidelines, all counselors must be 19 years of age or have completed one year of college. All counselors have also been cleared as per ACT 33 with the Pennsylvania State Police and the Department of Child Welfare. Camp Kon-O-Kwee also participates in an established International Counselor Program which provides a multi-cultural experience for summer campers.

Counselors stay in cabins with seven to eight children and supervise them through daily activities during our six week camping program. Camp provides these staff members with valuable experience in guiding young minds.

Program Staff Members teach and supervise children in program areas assisting in the growth of personal skills in each individual area. Program Staff Members are also required to help the village counselors in the evenings with village-wide activities.

Counselors-In-Training (CIT)

Our C.I.T.'s are juniors or seniors in high school. Most C.I.T.'s are recent campers and are a big assest to our counselors in helping to give care and guidance to campers. The content of the C.I.T. Program is designed to give a well-rounded background of experience in the operation of all phases of camp life.
C.I.T. applicants are reviewed and invited to a Weekend Campout in April, where they are evaluted in group situations and chosen to work summer sessions. This position is a volunteer position, however, the C.I.T. is given free room and board and training experience. The C.I.T. is very important in the life of Camp Kon-O-Kwee, contributing new ideas and future leadership.
